As a responsible business we help shape a better world
As a responsible business our work makes a positive difference to the environment, our people, our clients, their customers and the communities we serve and live in, by creating a safer, sustainable future.
It is about more than what we do, it is about how we behave and how we live our values through our people, demonstrating our wider social commitment through our work, which will help us ‘shape a better world’.
At MWH Treatment we are continually improving how we operate through active membership of Business in the Community.
As part of Business in the Community we completed a tracker, which has been instrumental in identifying our current responsible business strengths and providing actions we can take to significantly improve our responsible business approach.
Health, Safety and Wellbeing
MWH Treatment is committed to improving health, safety and wellbeing in every aspect of our work. Nothing is more important to us than ensuring everyone gets home safe and healthy at the end of the working day. By doing this we are having a positive effect on both working and home lives.
We foster a culture of zero harm, which is at the heart of our approach, ensuring the safety of everyone who may be affected by our work. This is complemented by the most rigorous application of best practice health and safety processes and procedures, adhering to BS OHSAS 45001 occupational health and safety standards as a minimum.
Inclusion and Ethical Practices
At MWH Treatment our people are at the heart of everything we do. We create an environment that enables our people to flourish, bring their best to work, trusting and supporting them to develop and deliver, with a sense of belonging and common purpose.
Our people strategy is built upon five key themes
- to promote a healthy workforce
- inspire a culture of inclusion
- connect, engage and communicate
- attract and retain great people
- help our people be the best they can be
As a business we are committed to raising standards and implementing ethical practices. As such we have a zero-tolerance policy regarding modern slavery and expect the same of our supply chain.
Environment
Care of the environment is central to MWH Treatment’s purpose and we are committed to sustainability. Our overarching objective is to carry out our business in such a manner as to maximise the positive effects on the environment, whilst continuing to provide value to our customers. Our environmental expectations and requirements are managed through an ISO14001 certified management system.
Our waste strategy of eliminate, reduce, reuse and recycle is applied throughout the life cycle from solution development to design through to delivery, commissioning and operation. Waste minimisation is achieved through value engineering, planning and collaboration with our supply chain and clients.
Carbon Reduction
We pride ourselves on providing solutions for our clients to help them achieve their sustainability aspirations and targets, including the lowering of whole life costs and carbon, both embedded and operational.
Our objective is to carry out our activities in such a manner as to mitigate the potential effects of climate change, assist clients’ in meeting their objectives and to adapt our operations for now and in the future.
MWH Treatment has calculated its organisational carbon footprint for the last 10 years, which has been externally verified through the Achilles CEMARS and now named Carbon Reduce scheme (see certificate). MWHT reduced carbon emissions during a 5 year period (2015-2019) and achieved a 35% reduction in emissions intensity, as well as a 41% reduction in absolute total emissions surpassing our original targets. In 2020, MWHT set a new baseline (2017 – 2019) with a new target of 20% reduction over 5 years. For 2021, when compared with the new baseline our total carbon footprint has increased by 9%. However MWHT are taking strides towards Net Zero Carbon by 2030 and working with employees, clients, suppliers and subcontractors to reduce our carbon footprint. For further details refer to the carbon disclosure statement.
MWH Treatment is also progressing towards organisational Net Zero Carbon by 2030, with a Route Map detailing the actions required to achieve this.
